After a delay that lasted 100 minutes and watching a 28-point lead dissipate in the second half, the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (2-0) defeated the Bartram Trail Bears (0-1) by a score of 52-45 on a nationally televised game at Weinman Stadium Saturday night.

Trevor Lawrence completed 18 of 23 passes on the night for 404 yards and five touchdowns. T.J. Horton and Jackson Lowe combined for 10 catches for 218 yards and four touchdown receptions, while Rico Frye had 210 total yards and two rushing touchdowns.

 

The Adairsville Tigers came back from 15 points down to score 29 unanswered and beat the Cass Colonels Friday night by a score of 29-15

For Cass, Juice Blackwell had 58 rushing yards on seven touchdowns with a touchdown. Rett Moore had 45 rushing yards and 94 passing yards with a touchdown, while Cameron Gonyea had a touchdown reception and an interception.

For Adairsville, Mason Boswell had three rushing touchdowns, one 2-point conversion, six tackles and an interception. The Tigers’ Christian Steele had 88 yards on 15 carries, and Cody Henderson and Daylon Baily combined for 182 receiving yards.

SOFTBALL

Cartersville softball dropped a pair of games Saturday in the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash at Boling Park in Canton. The Lady Canes fell to Cherokee and Jackson County in one-sided games.

In a 17-3 loss to Cherokee, the Lady Canes narrowed an early deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the first inning but could get no closer. Cherokee added runs in each of the next three frames including a seven-run fourth to close out the game. 

In an 11-3 loss to Jackson County, Cartersville fell behind early and the Panthers broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning to take a 10-2 lead.

Cartersville is now 3-6 on the season and 2-2 in region play.

 

The Cass softball team won its opener Friday in the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash but lost its final three games Friday night and Saturday in the tournament.

The Lady Colonels had tournament losses to Sequoyah, Coffee, and Sonoraville after defeating Campbell.

Sarah Fox was 5-for-10 in the tournament and homered against Sequoyah. She scored three runs and drove in four. Alexia Najarro was 4-for-9 with four runs scored and one RBI.

Cass is now 1-7 on the season.

 

Woodland softball defeated Campbell 13-1 Saturday but lost a back-and-forth struggle with Sequoyah 10-6 at home as part of the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash.

The Lady Cats committed five costly errors against the Lady Chiefs that helped lead to six unearned runs in the loss.

Madi Bentley tossed five strong innings allowing just two earned runs but was saddled with the loss

In the rout of Campbell, the Lady Cats out hit the visiting Lady Spartans ten to two and Woodland pitcher Sarah Baynard allowed just one earned run in five innings pitched.

Woodland is now 4-4 on the season.
