Continuing our coverage from National Signing Day, WBHF spoke to Cartersville defensive linemen Austin T. Davis, who signed with Georgia Military College last week. He talked about how big of a day this was for him.

“It’s a very exciting day. This is a great opportunity for me and other players,” said Davis. He talked about why he chose georgia military college.

“I felt it would be the perfect junior college for me. I feel like I can do a good two years there. They won some championships in the past and I feel like I can be one of those that wins another one for them.”

Davis said that this was the only school to offer him a scholarship.

As we continue in local sports the Cartersville girls basketball team is just one win away from making the state playoffs. They beat Ridgeland by a score of 54-43 and will play Heritage-Catoosa on Wednesday night for a spot in the state playoffs.

The Adairsville boys basketball team opened up their region tournament on Monday, as they beat Gordon Central 51-46 and will take on Sonoraville tonight at 8:30.

Bartow County teams will be sending 31 wrestlers to the state traditional tournament next weekend. Woodland qualified 13 of the 14 wrestlers it sent to state, while Cass qualifed 11 of its 12.

And the Georgia Higlands College baseball team started its first series off the right way over the weekend as it swept Surry Community College in four games. The Chargers scored 21 runs over the weekend and allowed just five in 32 innings of play. They will next play on Thursday when they take on Chattanooga State at home.

Soccer gets underway today in Bartow County as three local teams have games. The Adairsville boys will travel to Calhoun at 5:30, Woodland will host Cambridge at 5:30 and Cass will travel to Paulding County at 5:45.

And in basketball, the Adairsville boys will play Sonoraville tonight at 8:30 as they continue the Region 6 AAA tournament. Other teams open up region tournaments this evening, as the Excel girls team will play Walker at 5:30, the Adairsville girls will play at 7 and the Excel boys team will play at 8:30.

Tomorrow in sports, Adairsville will host Woodland in baseball at 5:30. In basketball, the Cartersville girls will play Heritage-Catoosa at 7:00. Should they win, they will receive a spot in the state playoffs.
