Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp recently announced the appointment and re-appointment of 66 Georgians to various state boards, authorities, and commissions, one of which is a local.

Kemp named Adairsville Mayor Kenneth Carson to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

The CJCC is a statewide body established to build consensus and unity among the State’s diverse and interdependent criminal justice system components. One of the CJCC’s core functions, grants management and administration, is integral in innovating criminal justice and empowering victims by administering competitive, formula-based, state-funded criminal justice and victim services grants in the State of Georgia. The CJCC’s second core function, the Crime Victims Emergency Fund administration, supports the Crime Victims Compensation Program, Officers Initiative, Unclaimed Restitution, DUI Memorial Sign Program, Forensic Medical Examinations, and Forensic Interviews. Another core function is to “serve as a statewide clearinghouse for criminal justice information and research.

Carson has served as Mayor of Adairsville for almost ten years and has been in law enforcement for over 36 years. He is a Major at the Calhoun Police Department’s patrol division.

Carson serves as the District 1 Representative on the Georgia Municipal Association’s Municipal Training Board.

As Mayor of Adairsville, Carson has served on the Board of Advisors for the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council for Pickens and Rome Regional Police Academies. He also serves on the Georgia Municipal Association Legislative Policy Council. Carson also serves his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club International, Adairsville Lions Club, and Lions Club International.
