Alexander Smart
An investigation is pending following the death of an inmate at the Bartow County Jail.
In an official statement from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office — “Alexander Smart did pass away while in custody at the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center on Thursday, April 16, 2024. No foul play is suspected. The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the investigation.”
Alexander Smart was booked into the Bartow County Adult Detention Center on June 21, 2023, after being charged with murder.
Smart was accused of shooting and killing 47-year-old Michael Gravley near Pine Ridge Drive and McTier Circle.
He did not have an official trial date set.
The investigation is ongoing.
