NEWS RELEASE ON HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION
FROM BARTOW COUNTY TAX COMMISSIONER, STEVE STEWART
DEADLINE TO FILE: APRIL 1, 2025
- All new homeowners are eligible to apply for Homestead Exemption if you own and occupy your home on January 1. You cannot receive homestead exemption on any other home you own.
- If you purchased a new home in 2024 or recorded a new deed, you will need to re-apply.
- County residents Regular Homestead Exemption – $15,000 exemption from County and $15,000 from County School Tax.
- Disabled Veterans that are 100% service connected may apply.
- A disabled person that has a total household income of less than $36,000 may apply and must re-apply every year.
- City of Cartersville residents 65 years of age and older may apply for a $60,000 homestead exemption from the City School portion.
- Beginning January 1, 2023, Senior School Tax homestead exemptions were changed in Bartow County as listed below. You must own your home and reside there to apply for these exemptions. You must re-apply as you meet the age requirements. THESE EXEMPTIONS APPLY TO BARTOW COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AD VALOREM TAXES ONLY; NOT CITY OF CARTERSVILLE RESIDENTS.
- 65 years old on January 1, school tax exemption of $60,000 off the assessed value
- 75 years old on January 1, school tax exemption of $80,000 off the assessed value
- 80 years old on January 1, school tax exemption of $200,000 off the assessed value
You may apply for these exemptions in person, any time during the year with current drivers license. However, the application must be filed by April 1st of the year in which the exemption is to be granted.
