A woman charged with murder is found guilty of murder. Fifty-nine year old, Kim Lori McCoy was found guilty of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She was found not guilty of one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She shot 84-year-old, James Sam McCoy in the abdomen in February 2018 at their Norton Road home in Kingston. McCoy said she suffered from Battered Woman’s Syndrome and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. She testified that her ex-husband had verbally, physically and sexually abused her for years.
Meanwhile, motives attributed to the shooting include anger that she was being evicted from the home following the couple’s second divorce and romantic feelings for another man. All agreed that her alcoholism and refusal to attend church with Sam McCoy caused problems in the marriage.
Kim McCoy will be sentenced next month.
