Cartersville, GA (November 3, 2023) -The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Cartersville, Bartow County, Georgia. The Cartersville Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Two people were shot during the incident. One is in critical condition; the other person was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and was released from the hospital. No officers were injured in this incident.
Preliminary information indicates that at about 9:20 p.m., Cartersville P.D. officers responded to a home on Anne Circle, Cartersville, GA in reference to a domestic dispute. When officers got out of their patrol cars, Christopher Shane Milteer, age 24, of Cartersville, GA, began shooting at the officers while standing in the doorway of the home. The officers used their patrol cars for cover and returned fire, shooting Milteer. Milteer was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. During the shooting, one person inside the home was shot. That person was treated and released from the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.
This is the 87th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2023.
