CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – A public information open house to discuss the Georgia DOT’s proposed improvements to Glade Road in Bartow County is scheduled for Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Allatoona Elementary School, located at 4150 New Hope Church Road in Acworth, Georgia.

Bartow County’s residents interested in learning more about the proposed project are encouraged to attend the meeting and express their thoughts and preferences.

“We would like to hear the viewpoints and concerns of all area residents,” says DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT office in Cartersville.  “The Georgia DOT strongly believes that since this project is intended to serve the people of Bartow County, the ideas and preferences of these people are important and can make a difference in our planning process,” Comer explains.  “This meeting will provide the public with an opportunity to review the proposed project, ask questions, and express their preferences as well as their concerns.”

The proposed plans call for the reconstruction of Glade Road in Bartow County from Homestead Drive to Ryan Road for a distance of 3.7 miles.  The proposed project also includes improvements to intersections and the realignment of the horizontal and vertical curvature of the roadway to improve sight distances.  The existing roadway consists of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction on approximately 60 feet of right of way. The proposed plans would improve the roadway to improve the roadway to meet the 35 mile per hour design speed by realigning curves in several locations within the project’s limits. A rural two lane section will be used throughout the project’s limits. Existing intersections at connecting streets would be upgraded as necessary to better accommodate access to and from these side streets, thereby improving safety and reducing the number of crashes and injuries.  The proposed project also includes the replacement on the existing bridge on Glade Road over Allatoona Lake.

The Open House will be informal and the public is invited to attend anytime between 5 and 7 p.m.  The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities.  Accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged with advance notice by calling Cherie Marsh at (678) 721-5257.

Written statements will be accepted concerning this project until December 14, 2014.  Written statements may be submitted to:
