Robert Lewis Burns Jr.,also known as Bob Burns, the former drummer of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, died in a car accident on Friday night in Bartow County. He was traveling on Tower Ridge Road when he approached a curve and left his side of the roadway, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The musician struck a mailbox and a tree with the front of his vehicle at approximately 11:56 p.m.

Bob was the only person inside the vehicle and was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the Public information officer.

Burns was a member of the original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Burns helped form the band in 1964 and left the band in 1974.
