The National Weather Service is predicting between 3 to 5 inches of rain for the Bartow County area in the next couple of days.  Because of the several inches of rain that has already fallen, the ground is 100% saturated, the effect of this is that the ground acts like an impervious surface, essentially 100% of the rain will run off instead of a large percentage being infiltrated as with a typical rain.  Drainage systems cannot be designed or built large enough to handle a 100% run off situation, so we should expect ditches to be running over and water to be standing in low areas all across Cartersville.  City officials are currently using all our forces to clear leaves and debris from drop inlets and catch basins to make sure the drainage systems functions as well as possible.
