Traffic crashes across Georgia during the Labor Day holiday travel period resulted in 18 traffic deaths. This year, the holiday travel period was 78-hours long. It began at 6 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 31, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Mon., Sept. 3.
Statewide, Georgia State Troopers investigated 446 traffic crashes that resulted in 203 injuries and nine fatalities. Nine fatalities were investigated by the Georgia State Patrol and nine fatalities were investigated by other local agencies. In addition to the traffic crash investigations, 322 people were arrested for driving under the influence, while 9,008 citations and 12,180 warnings were issued.
Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were: Cobb County PD, Clayton County PD, Richmond County SO; and Union City PD.
