The Cass Colonels (3-2) defeated the ML King Lions by a score of 40-0.

Cass opened up the scoring early with a 9-yard rushing touchdown from Devin Henderson on the Colonels’ opening drive. After an ML King punt, Brodie McWhorter connected with Sacovie White for the first of four first half touchdowns.

The first quarter would close with Cass marching deep into ML King territory. Just a few seconds later, Henderson would score his second rushing touchdown of the game to increase the Cass lead to 21-0. McWhorter and White connected for three more scores, including one to close out the first half of play. The defense stymied the Lions attack throughout the game’s first 24 minutes including a fumble recovery in the second quarter.

Cass had some blemishes in the first half, however. It missed a PAT and failed to convert a 2-point conversion after a high snap. All-in-all, Cass led 40-0 as play began for the third quarter.

A running clock was used in the second half, as Cass had a lead greater than 35 points.

The Lions were happy to oblige as they had been at Cass High School since 1:00 PM Friday afternoon. This was due to the fact that ML King was short on buses. The only way to get the players to the field was to have them at Cass before school let out so the buses could return to Atlanta for their regular routes.

Cass will start its region slate next Friday night at 7:30 PM. Cass will host Woodland (2-3) and you can hear the action by streaming the game on Bartow Sports Zone.
