Earlier this year, murder charges against a Chatsworth woman in connection with a 2001 killing were dismissed.

In April 2025, 74-year-old Mary Ruth Fowler and her husband, 74-year-old Gary Fowler, were arrested and charged with the 2001 murder of Travis Silvers. According to the Bartow County Jail docket, Mary Fowler was granted a $50,000 bond in July 2025 and was released from jail. Gary Fowler’s bond was later set at $1 million.

On January 8, 2026, charges against Mary Ruth Fowler were dismissed. Gary Fowler remains incarcerated in the Bartow County Jail.

Authorities say the body of Travis Silvers was discovered on March 10, 2001, wrapped in a quilt and placed inside his truck, which had been left in the parking lot of a Wendy’s in Adairsville. Silvers had been shot four times.

During a previous hearing, Fowler’s attorney argued there was no proof that his client killed Silvers, stating that even if Fowler had been present or helped dispose of the body, that alone would not constitute murder.

Fowler faces malice and felony murder charges.
