The Cass Colonels (3-3, 2-2) continued its Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde season with a 24-9 loss to the East Paulding Raiders (1-5, 1-3) on Friday night.

The Colonels struggled early and often in this contest as they were forced to punt five times in the first half. East Paulding converted a 4th down early in the first quarter for a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jet Trout to put Cass down early. On its next drive, East Paulding would kick a 27-yard field goal to give East Paulding a 10-0 lead.

Cass’ offense was stifled the entire first half, but on the final drive of the first half, Brett Gaddy connected with Laizon West for a 45-yard gain to set Cass up at the Raiders 24-yard line. Unfortunately, Anthony Robledo would miss the field goal attempt and Cass would go into the half down 10-0.

Cass would kick two field goals in the third quarter to get on the scoreboard, but East Paulding would answer with an 84-yard touchdown run and Cass would find itself down 17-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Robledo would add another field goal in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession ball game with about five minutes left, but East Paulding had one more dagger to drive to Cass. On the first play from scrimmage following the field goal, the Raiders would go 83-yards on a quarterback scamper to go up 24-9.

Cass will host Rome (4-2, 3-1) next week with kickoff scheduled for 7:30.
