The Cass Colonels (2-0) dominated the Model Blue Devils on Thursday night with a 48-0 victory, scoring on every offensive possession in the first half.
Cass started strong on their opening drive, moving the ball 80 yards down the field and finishing with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Brodie McWhorter to Chase Tatum. Although they missed the PAT, they secured an early lead. On their next drive in the first quarter, Cass marched down the field again, culminating in a 1-yard touchdown run by Braylon Hill.
In the second quarter, Hill added another touchdown with a 6-yard run. The Cass defense proved formidable, stifling Model’s offense throughout the first half. Whenever the Blue Devils tried to gain momentum, the Colonels were there to halt their progress. Ja’Kai Baldwin intercepted a pass, giving Cass excellent field position, which the offense quickly converted into points with a 13-yard touchdown run by Jachai Delgado.
The defensive pressure from Cass continued as they forced a fumble on the next drive, recovered by Jeremiah DeRoche’. This set up another scoring opportunity, where McWhorter connected with Hill for a 17-yard touchdown. With just 41 seconds left in the first half, Cass executed a 59-yard drive, ending with a 38-yard touchdown pass from McWhorter to Elijah Slocum, extending their lead to 41-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Cass forced another interception. Jerome Sanders capitalized on the turnover immediately, scoring on a 46-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 48-0. With the clock running and second-string players in the game, the fourth quarter saw little action.
Cass will host the Adairsville Tigers next Friday night at 7:30. The game can be streamed at bartowsportszone.com, with pre-game coverage starting at 7:00.
