The Cass Colonels (1-2) defeated Drew Charter School on Friday night by a score of 58-15.

After some hard-fought losses to begin the season, the Colonels broke out in a big way despite a late start to the game. Drew showed up late to the game after initially arriving to Cartersville High School for the game.

Cass wasted little time after kickoff. Freshman quarterback Brodie McWhorter found Devin Henderson for a 13-yard touchdown pass on Cass’ opening drive. On its next drive, McWhorter connected with Sacovie White for a 16-yard touchdown. The Colonels special teams were also on-hand as the united forced a Drew safety. After the first 12 minutes of the game, Cass led 16-0.

The second quarter brought more of the same.

White returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown, while Mac Nelson scored on a 12-yard run. With just under nine minutes left in the second quarter, Cass had 30 points, while Drew was being shutout.

The opposition was not going away yet. Cameron Prather threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jacobi Carter to give Drew its first points of the game. Nelson scored on a 15-yard run before Prather threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Makel Lloyd.

That was enough of that.

Cass scored back-to-back touchdowns to close out the first half as Henderson scored on a 47-yard touchdown run and threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to White. At the half, Cass led Drew 51-13.

With a running clock in the second half, Nelson would add a 2-yard touchdown run for good measure. A bad snap on a punt went into the end zone for a Drew safety just before the fourth quarter could end.

Cass will travel to Adairsville next week at 7:30 PM for a game that will be heard on Bartow Sports Zone. You can hear the game by visiting www.bartowsportszone.com as pre-game coverage will begin at 7:00 PM.
