The Cass Colonels’ season came to an end Friday night with a 41-7 loss to Blessed Trinity.
Blessed Trinity jumped out to a 21-point lead in the first half, quickly putting the Colonels on the defensive. Big plays and a few Cass mistakes fueled the Titans’ surge. The Colonels’ biggest misstep came late in the first quarter when Chase Tatum’s punt was blocked. The Titans recovered the ball inside Cass’ 10-yard line and quickly converted for a touchdown.
Cass’ defense tightened up in the second quarter, limiting Blessed Trinity to just three more points before halftime to keep the score within three touchdowns.
The Titans took the opening kickoff of the second half and struck fast. After less than three minutes, they broke off a 50-yard touchdown run, delivering a crushing blow to the Colonels. Blessed Trinity would add another score on its next possession, effectively sealing the game.
Cass did manage to find the end zone late in the fourth quarter when Elijah Slocum ran for a 4-yard touchdown with 1:28 remaining.
Despite the loss, Cass finishes the season with a 6-5 record and set a school record with its fourth consecutive playoff appearance.
