The Cass Colonels fell to a different group of Wildcats this week with a 16-3 loss to Villa Rica on the road.
The Cass defense forced a fumble to start out Villa Rica’s opening drive and recovered the ball at midfield. Unfortunately, the Colonels had a false start on the first play from scrimmage and the Cass drive was over before it could really get started. Villa Rica would put seven points on a TJ Brown 1-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.
Cass would put up a field goal with 4:51 left in the half. On the Wildcats ensuing drive, Noah Best found tailback Phillip Zachary for a score, but the PAT was blocked to give Villa Rica a 13-3 lead. Cass put up an impressive drive at the end of the first half but unfortunately ran out of time.
Villa Rica would add a field goal in the second half, but the defenses for both teams continued to stymie the opposing offenses.
Cass is now 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in region play. It will search for its first region win next week, but it will have to come on the road against a very strong Rome team, which is ranked first in Class 5-A.
