The Cass Colonels (1-0) capped off an impressive week for Bartow County football teams with a commanding 42-7 victory over the Callaway Cavaliers in the Corky-Kell Classic on Saturday night.

Cass started strong, scoring on its first possession after converting a crucial fourth down in Callaway territory. Brodie McWhorter connected with Elijah Slocum for a short touchdown pass, putting the Colonels ahead 6-0.

In the second quarter, Braylon Hill extended Cass’s lead with a long rushing touchdown just under 10 minutes before halftime. The Colonels’ defense also made an impact, as Ja’Kai Baldwin intercepted a pass at midfield and returned it for a pick-six, just 23 seconds after Hill’s touchdown run.

With 2:45 remaining in the first half, McWhorter ran a quarterback keeper into the end zone, pushing the Colonels’ lead to 26-0. Callaway responded with just 23 seconds left in the half when Xae Anderson caught a touchdown pass from Blake Harrington, concluding the first-half scoring.

The Cavaliers opened the third quarter with a promising drive, but Cass’s defense stopped them on fourth down, forcing a turnover on downs. The Colonels then marched down the field, finishing the drive with a short touchdown pass from McWhorter to Jachai Delgado. A special teams mistake by Callaway set up the Colonels at the Cavaliers’ 16-yard line, and McWhorter capitalized with his third touchdown pass of the night. The Colonels added a 2-point conversion, securing a 42-7 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the game.

Cass’s defense continued to stifle the Cavaliers’ offense for the rest of the game, sealing the victory.

Next week, Cass will host the Model Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. You can listen to the game online at bartowsportszone.com, with pre-game coverage starting at 7:00 p.m.
