Woodland’s (0-3) first win remained elusive and Cass (2-1) bounced back from a tough loss a week ago on Friday, in an intracounty and region game, which concluded in 31-7 victory for the Colonels.

Cass didn’t look sharp to start off the game, as it had two turnovers on special teams early in the first quarter. The first of which occurred on the opening kickoff and set up a Woodland score. The Wildcats converted a 4th and 2 on a 32 yard touchdown run by Alex Quintero for Woodland’s first lead of the 2016 season. Cass kicker Anthony Robledo missed a 33-yard field goal and everything seemed to be going in the way of the Wildcats early. Unfortunately their good fortune would end.

Cass would go on to put up 31 unanswered points, the first seven came via a 60-yard fumble recovery from Tripp Breden to tie up the game in the second quarter. Woodland then had a kick that was blocked, which set up another Cass score with quarterback Brett Gaddy found Laizon West for a 71-yard touchdown pass just before the end of the first half.

In the second half, Woodland’s Ant Lester had a 64-yard run to set up the Wildcats in Colonel territory, but they were unsuccessful for a 24-yard field goal. Gaddy would throw one interception before throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass to Devin Pritchett and a 27-yard touchdown pass to Terry Berdin. Woodland could not convert a 4th and goal with 2:35 remaining in the game and Cass would run out the clock to earn its first region victory on the season.

Woodland falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in region play, while Cass improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in region play. Woodland will travel to Villa Rica next week and Cass will host Hiram. Both games are scheduled for 7:30.
