The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (6-0, 2-0) defeated the Hiram Hornets on Friday night by a score of 34-14.
Cartersville came out of the gates with fire, as Amari White scored on the opening drive. Cartersville also scored on Hiram’s first possession as Jaqualyn Mayhall put a pick-six on the board for a 40-yard interception return to put the Canes up early 13-0. White once again found the end zone on a 2-yard carry, while Malachi Jeffries scored on another carry inside the 10-yard line to put the Canes up 27-0 with only a few second expired in the second quarter.
Hiram had perhaps the most exciting play of the game when it blocked a field goal attempt and took the ball 86-yards into the end zone on the block. But it was too little too late. Cartersville would score again before the first half could end on a 3-yard touchdown run – his third rushing score of the day.
Hiram scored a late touchdown in the fourth quarter, but by then the damage had been done.
Cartersville will travel to Blessed Trinity next Friday night at 7:30, on a game that should gather statewide attention. You can hear the action on WBHF with pregame coverage beginning at 6:00.
