The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes roared to a 42-7 victory over the Hapeville Charter Hornets at home, showcasing a relentless offense and a stingy defense that left the visitors reeling.
After a sluggish start to begin the game, Braylon Hill ignited the crowd early, bursting through for a 6-yard touchdown run to give Cartersville a 7-0 lead with 2:22 left in the first quarter.
The Purple Hurricanes’ defense matched the intensity when Tyon Coe snagged an interception in the end zone and raced to the Hapeville 39-yard line, thwarting a Hornets’ drive. Coe didn’t stop there, powering in a 13-yard touchdown run to push Cartersville’s lead to 14-0 with 8:33 remaining in the second quarter. The momentum surged as Hill exploded for a 68-yard touchdown scamper, stretching the lead to 21-0. With just over two minutes left in the half, Nate Russell fired a pinpoint 43-yard touchdown pass to Kaiden Kent, sending the Canes into halftime with a commanding 28-0 advantage.
Cartersville kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter. Russell connected with Brady Marchese for a touchdown pass, ballooning the lead to 35-0 with 6:03 to go. Cooper Melvin capped the quarter’s scoring, hauling in a touchdown catch from Harris Turner with 2:24 left, pushing the score to 42-0. Hapeville Charter managed a late touchdown, but it couldn’t dent Cartersville’s dominance.
