The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (12-0) defeated the Warner Robins Demons 64-0 Friday night.
Cartersville struck first after recovering an onside kick attempt by the Demons. Braylon Hill capped a quick drive with a 1-yard plunge, though the two-point try failed, giving the Canes a 6-0 lead at the 10:20 mark of the opening quarter. After Warner Robins missed a field goal, Hill powered in from 3 yards out to finish an 80-yard march and make it 13-0 still in the first. The floodgates truly opened on the next Warner Robins possession. A high snap on a punt sailed into the end zone for a safety, and on the ensuing free kick, speedster Maddox Davis fielded it at his own 20 and raced 80 yards untouched for a touchdown and a 22-0 lead with 1:54 left in the first. The Canes weren’t done. On Warner Robins’ next snap, Nate Russell found Brady Marchese streaking down the sideline for a 55-yard bomb and a 29-0 advantage. Twenty-six seconds later, Reed Ezell stepped in front of a pass and returned it 32 yards for another score. When the first quarter mercifully ended, Cartersville led 36-0.
The second quarter was barely kinder to the Demons. Russell hit Davis for a 35-yard touchdown, then Hill bulldozed in for his third score of the half to make it 50-0 at the break. The second half was all formality under the mercy rule.
Tripp Chatmon opened the third-quarter scoring with a pick-six, and backup running back PJ Richards added a short touchdown run late in the fourth to close the scoring at 64-0.
