The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (5-0) defeated the Heritage Patriots on Friday night 45-0.

Cartersville opened the game with a missed field goal, however the second drive would not end as fortunately for the Patriots. Khristian Lando capped off Cartersville’s second drive with a short touchdown run to open the scoring. Instead of kicking the PAT, the Hurricanes elected to go for a 2-point conversion to fire up the Homecoming crowd, which was successful. After the Cartersville defense made short work of the Heritage offense, it was the Cartersville offensive attack that again made some noise. Lando capped off another, short drive with his second touchdown run of the game.

The second quarter saw more scoring and defensive highlights from Cartersville. Heritage started deep in its own territory and a bad snap went into the end zone. While the Heritage quarterback came away with the football, it was deemed a safety to stretch the Cartersville lead to 17-0. Immediately following the safety, A’darrian Taylor-Wilson took the punt 70 yards into the end zone to continue the rout. Baylon Long scored a rushing touchdown to extend the Cartersville lead to 31-0.

As if the offense scoring points at will wasn’t enough, the Cartersville defense – already with a safety – decided to add some more points. Reed Ezell had a pick-six on one drive and then another interception on the following drive. This gave Ezell three interceptions in the last three quarters of action dating back to last Friday. Long finished the second quarter scoring with a short, touchdown run which followed Ezell’s second interception.
