The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (5-0) remained perfect on Friday night with a 49-0 shutout of Heritage-Conyers, which would mark a successful homecoming.

Cartersville scored on its opening possession and the only blemish the Canes would have was a first quarter fumble recovered by the visiting Patriots. The defense stood tall and did not allow the turnover to convert into points. As a matter of fact, the Cartersville defense would have three takeaways in the contesting, thus winning the turnover battle.

Cartersville freshman quarterback Nate Russell threw three touchdowns on the evening, as he connected with Jamauri Brice, Collin Fletcher, and Romo Pace. Malachi Jeffries had a rushing score for the Canes, while Baylon Long scored in the fourth quarter. Tayshaun Carter had a pick-six for the Canes in the third quarter.

Cartersville will have a bye week next week as it prepares to begin its region schedule. The Canes will next play on Friday, September 30th when it visits the Calhoun Yellow Jackets. The game will feature the two favorites in the region and will kickoff at 7:30 PM. You can hear the game on WBHF with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:00 PM/
