The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (4-0) defeated the Columbia Lions on Senior Night by a score of 42-0.
It wasn’t the best of starts for the Canes, as quarterback Nate Russell threw an interception on the team’s opening drive. The Cartersville defense stood tall and from that point on the box score was all Cartersville.

Malachi Jeffries had two rushing scores in the first half as he plowed through the Lions front seven getting yards in bunches. Luke McBride and Kelvin Mitchell also added first half rushing touchdowns for Cartersville.
Late in the second quarter, Cartersville’s Myles Forristall recovered a fumble, which would set up Russell tossing a 19-yard touchdown to Jamauri Brice. That score was important, as it ensured a running clock in the second half.
Jachai Delgado found the end zone late in the fourth quarter, while Talon Nix had a big fumble recovery inside the Columbia red zone.
Cartersville will host Heritage-Conyers next Friday night with kickoff set for 7:30 PM at Weinman Stadium. You can hear the game live on WBHF with pregame coverage beginning at 6:00 PM.
