The Cartersville Police Department, in partnership with the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation (GBI), continues to investigate the brutal murder of 53-year-old Patricia
Ann Hanlon, whose death has remained unsolved for more than 26 years.
Investigators are renewing their appeal to the public, asking anyone with information,
no matter how small it may seem, to come forward and help bring justice to Patricia
and closure to her family.
On July 27, 2000, Ms. Hanlon was found deceased in the bedroom of her apartment at
130 North Erwin Street in Cartersville. Due to the condition of the scene,
investigators believe she had been deceased for several days and that the murder
occurred sometime between July 21 and July 27, 2000. Evidence at the scene
confirmed that Ms. Hanlon was the victim of a violent homicide.
At the time of her death, Patricia Hanlon was employed at Lacey Mills in Cartersville.
She was known as a dedicated employee whose tragic death deeply impacted her
family, friends, and those who knew her.
“This case remains a priority for our agency,” said Cartersville Police Chief Kevin
Cloninger. “After more than two decades, we have not given up our commitment to
finding those responsible for Patricia’s murder. Someone knows what happened, and
even the smallest piece of information could provide the breakthrough we need.
Memories fade, circumstances change, and people who may have been reluctant to
speak in the past may now be willing to come forward. We encourage anyone with
information to contact us.”
Investigators believe there are individuals who may have information about Patricia
Hanlon’s murder that have yet to come forward. Even details that may have seemed
unimportant at the time could prove critical when combined with evidence developed
throughout the investigation. A single tip could be the key to finally identifying the
person responsible. The Cartersville Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation remain committed to pursuing every available lead until Patricia
Hanlon’s killer is identified and brought to justice.
