Chief Thomas Culpepper of the Cartersville Police Department is proud to announce that the Cartersville Police Department will deploy automated external defibrillators in all patrol cars.  The AED’s were purchased after the City Council approved the funds to equip each unit with the life saving devices.

An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening conditions in a patient and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

The officers of the Cartersville Police Department have been trained in the use of the AED as well as CPR.  The devices were purchased from Cardiac Science and are state of the art technology.  Use of these devices allows the officers, who are most often the first on the scene, to administer life saving techniques and increase the survivability rate of a citizen without having delay.
