CartersvillePurpleHurricanesFBhelmetThe Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (6-1, 4-0) overcame a slow start to the game against Northwest Whitfield Bruins (3-4, 1-3), which included a scoreless first quarter. This was the first game all season that left Cartersville off the board in the first quarter all season. The second quarter through the end of the game belonged to the Hurricanes, as they outscored the Bruins 44-3, which was the final score.

Defenses prevailed early, but Cartersville was able to wear down the Bruins’ 11, including a four touchdown evening for Taimon Pennymon, who had touchdown runs of 86, 46, 36 and 7. The Canes defense never folded against the Bruins offense. The only points Northwest Whitfield was able to score were a 51-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. Cartersville again fought the penalty bug, but none proved to be costly. Penalties were a problem for Cartersville early on in the 2014 season, and they were back at a rampant pace in the game Friday evening.

The Purple Hurricanes will welcome Southeast Whitfield into Cartersville next Friday at 7:30; a game you will hear live on AM 1450 WBHF.
