The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (5-0, 1-0) survived a first-half scare top pick up its first region victory of the season with a 24-2 win over the Cedartown Bulldogs.
Cartersville led just 10-2 after the first half, as both defenses stood strong. Sam Phillips had the lone touchdown, while Oscar Hernandez kicked a 31-yard field goal.
The second half would lean in favor of the Canes. Cedartown was unable to convert on a fake punt, which gave Cartersville the ball around midfield. Tee Webb connected with Devonte Ross for a 49-yard gain, which set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Jake Brasfield. After several more defensive stands, Brasfield would find the end zone once more for a 10-yard touchdown run to give Cartersville its 24-2 victory.
Cartersville will hit the road next week to take on Central-Carroll at 7:30 PM. You can hear all of the action on WBHF with pregame coverage beginning at 6:00 PM.
