The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (2-0) defeated the Jonesboro Cardinals 38-16 on Friday night.

A lone field goal by Jesus Gutierrez was the difference in the first 12 minutes in the game, but the second quarter would reap big rewards for the Cartersville offense.

Cartersville recovered a muffed punt deep in Jonesboro territory. It was able to score shortly after and extend the lead to 10-0. The Canes would once again find the end zone when Paul Gamble, who threw for a touchdown earlier ran one in to give Cartersville a three-score lead. Gamble would add two more passing touchdowns to Romo Pace and Collin Fletcher to give the Canes a 31-0 lead entering the half.

With a running clock in the second half, Cartersville would add another touchdown on the board before Joneseboro found the end zone. The Cardinals were able to score 16-unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late for the visiting high school.

Cartersville will travel to Allatoona next week for a 7:30 PM kickoff. You can hear the game on WBHF with pregame coverage beginning at 6:00 PM.
