CartersvillePurpleHurricanesFBhelmetThe Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (12-2) fell to the Buford Wolves (14-0) on Friday night at Weinman Stadium in the semi-finals of the AAA GHSA football playoffs by a score of 27-3. The offense started off slow in the first half, and several misuces in the second sealed the fate of the Purple Hurricanes. The Cartersville defense held strong all season, and the same was true on Friday night. The defense held Buford to two, one-yard touchdown runs in the second half, and was able to limit the amount of damage the Buford offense could do with the Cartersville turnovers. The Wolves defensive front was able to wreak havoc on Trevor Lawrence and the offensive front of Cartersville. The Wolves blitzed early and often and through off the Cartersville offense, which was limited to three points in the game, thanks to a Jonathan Cruz field goal just before halftime. The Hurricanes ended the season with 12 wins and far exceeded expectations that many had predicted for them in the preseason. Buford will play in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta next week for the AAAA Championship against Saint Pius next Friday.
