The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (3-0) stretched their win streak to 18 with a 31-0 shutout of Westlake (1-2) on Friday night.

Cartersville’s defense held strong all game long, forcing Westlake to punt on its first possession. On Cartersville’s first possession, Trey Creamer found the endzone on a three yard touchdown run. Trevor Lawrence threw two interceptions early on in the game, but settled down as the game progressed and found Jacoby Orr for a touchdown pass with about one minute remaining in the first half to give Cartersville a 17-0 lead.

The second half was much more competitive, but Westlake couldn’t stop the arm of Cartersville’s junior quarterback as Lawrence found the endzone two more times on touchdown passes to Darian Poellnitz and Avery Showell, which led to the eventual 31-0 final.

Jonathan Cruz hit one of his two field goals attempts and the Cartersville pitched its second shutout in as many games. Cartersville’s 18-game win streak is the longest active streak in the state.

Next week Cartersville will host Hapeville Charter at 7:30. You can hear the game live on AM 1450 WBHF and on FM 100.3, with Countdown to Kickoff presented by Peachtree Planning starting live at 6:00.
