The Cartersville Hurricanes beat the Woodland Wildcats by a score of 43-0 on Thursday night.
Cartersville received the opening kickoff and the Hurricanes’ offense got on the board first as Baylon Long scored an 11-yard rushing touchdown to give Cartersville an early 6-0 lead. After a 2-point conversion by Khristian Lando, Cartersville had an 8-0 lead. Despite the early touchdown, the rest of the opening quarter was extremely quiet scoring wise. Woodland had a chance to cut into Cartersville’s lead at one point as they attempted a field goal to potentially make the score 7-3. Unfortunately, the Wildcats attempt failed.
After a rather uneventful first quarter, Cartersville’s offense continued to roll in the second quarter as Luke McBride marched into the end zone to extend the Hurricanes’ lead. After this touchdown, Woodland’s scoring drought continued and the Wildcats could not respond. Cartersville, on the other hand, did not have any trouble finding the end zone once again as Khristian Lando found the end zone on a 22-yard touchdown run. At the half, Cartersville led Woodland 22-0.
Cartersville began the second half by getting a stop on defense and then Baylon Long scored his second rushing touchdown of the night to extend the Hurricanes’ lead to 29-0 early in the third quarter. The Hurricanes’ offense was not done scoring, though, as Andrew Purdy scored on an 11-yard touchdown run to extend Cartersville’s lead to 36-0 with around five minutes
remaining in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Cartersville enjoyed having a running clock, but that still didn’t limit is offense as Purdy scored his second rushing touchdown of the half to give the Hurricanes a 43-0 lead with about eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Since there was a running clock, both teams ran down the clock and Cartersville walked away with a 43-0 victory on the road.
With this win, Cartersville is now 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in the region while Woodland is 2-7 on the season and 0-4 in the region. The Hurricanes will play the Dalton Catamounts next Friday and the Wildcats will play the Hiram Hornets.
