The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (5-0) dominated the Dalton Catamounts Friday night with a 43-13 victory.
Although Cartersville punted on its first drive, the offense quickly gained momentum on its second possession when Tyon Coe broke free for a 25-yard touchdown run, putting the Hurricanes ahead early. Nate Russell added to the lead before the first quarter ended, scoring on a 1-yard quarterback sneak, though a missed PAT left the score at 13-0.
Cartersville’s offense was quiet for most of the second quarter until Russell found Jamauri Brice for a 7-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead. With just nine seconds left in the half, a blocked Dalton punt set up Cartersville deep in Catamount territory, and Ramsey Rowell nailed a 25-yard field goal, sending the Hurricanes into halftime up 23-0.
Cartersville wasted no time in the second half, scoring on the opening drive when Cayden Aleman caught a 10-yard shovel pass from Russell. Coe then electrified the crowd with a 77-yard touchdown run, giving the Hurricanes a commanding 36-0 lead. Dalton managed to respond before the third quarter ended with an 81-yard touchdown pass, but the game was well out of reach.
Kaden Baldwin capped off the win with a pick-six late in the game, sealing the dominant performance. Dalton’s Caine Woods added a consolation rushing touchdown in the final minutes.
