The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes football team advanced to the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class-4A State Playoffs with a  35-0 win over the Thomson Bulldogs on Friday night.

Cartersville needed just one minute and 49 seconds to grab a lead that it would never relinquish, as Quante Jennings capped off the drive with a  1-yard touchdown run. Just before the first quarter could end, Devonte Ross caught a long fourth-down pass in the end zone to give Cartersville a two-touchdown lead.

In the second quarter, Cartersville would extend the lead to 21-0 following Harrison Allen’s 2-yard run, which was set up by long passes from Tee Webb to Kyler Johnson and Kolbe Benham. Thomson had a chance to put some points on the board before the half but missed a 34-yard field goal.

Jennings scored his second touchdown of the day on a 6-yard run, which was set up by a long, 50-yard pass from Webb to Evan Slocum, who would add a 41-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, for the cherry on top.

Cartersville will remain at home next week as it hosts Woodward Academy, the No. 1 seed from Region 4.
