The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes won an overtime thriller on Thursday night by a score of 58-56 over Blessed Trinity to advance to the Elite Eight of the Class 4-A GHSA Basketball playoffs and end a reign of torment by the Titans in the playoffs.

Cartersville led by three with just seconds remaining, but the Titans hit a three with time expiring to send the game into overtime. Blessed Trinity scored first, but it was Cartersville that would end up with 10 points in the overtime period compared to the Titans eight. TJ Horton split two free throws with 18 seconds left in the overtime period to give Cartersville a two-point advantage, but the Titans would have the final shot. CJ Abrams missed the shot, which was rebounded by Horton to seal the game for the Canes.

Horton finished with 24 points in the game, while star guard Jaylon Pugh finished with 13 and hit some crucial free throws in that overtime period.

Cartersville will now hit the road on Wednesday to play Baldwin for a chance at the Final Four with game time set for 7:00 PM. You can hear all of the action on WBHF.
