The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (3-0) continued their strong start Friday night with a 58-6 lead over the Calhoun Yellow Jackets (2-1).

It started early when Trevor Lawrence threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to JKobe Orr to take an early 7-0 lead before one minute had been taken off the clock. On the Canes next possession, Rico Frye would find the end zone on a 3-yard run to extend the Cartersville lead. Lawrence would hit EJ Turner for Cartersville’s third touchdown in as many possessions.

As if things could not get worse for Calhoun, a bad snap on a punt would go out of the end zone resulting in a safety and a 23-0 Cartersville lead. After the free kick, Lawrence would hit TJ Horton for his third touchdown pass of the evening and Cartersville would have a 30-0 lead and the first quarter still had four minutes remaining.

With 1:32 remaining in the first quarter, Lawrence would show off his running ability and punch it in on a 6-yard rush to extend the Cartersville lead 37-0.

The second quarter would not be any better for Calhoun as Frye would hit the end zone two more times. He had a 3-yard rushing touchdown and then would score on a 71-yard screen pass to give Cartersville a 51-0 lead with 9:20 left in the first half.

With just 45 seconds left in the first half, Cartersville would score on a 21-yard run from Marcus Gray to give Cartersville its 58-0 halftime lead.

Calhoun would score in the second half, but miss the PAT. Cartersville’s starters sat out of the second half and would cruise to its 58-6 victory to push its winning streak to a state-best 33 games.

Cartersville will hit the road next week to play non-region opponent, Westlake.
