On Monday, officers with Cartersville Police Department responded to the area of 478 Waterford Drive, in reference to a Burglary in progress.  As officers neared the scene, officers noted a suspicious vehicle leaving the area. Upon arrival at the victim’s home, officers discovered evidence left at the scene by the suspect. Based upon these findings, officers quickly developed a suspect and released a BOLO for the suspect. Patrol Officers located the suspect’s vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. As the suspect fled the scene, he lost control of the vehicle and wrecked the vehicle into a ditch on Indian Mounds Road. Officers arrived arrested the suspect, 27-year-old Phillip Charles Elrod without further incident and charged him with burglary and possession of tools for the commission of a crime with additional charges pending.

During the course of the investigation, officer located a second crime scene at a neighboring residence. Investigators responded to the incident, processed the crime scene and obtained a full confession from Elrod. Investigators are coordinating with surrounding agencies in an attempt to solve additional crimes.
