The Bartow County Fire Department responded to a call about the power house area of the Allatoona Dam at 3:40 PM EST. Upon arrival there was heavy smoke emerging from the dam. Once power was re-energized, they were able to contain the fire, which appeared to be electrical and several levels below grade. Officials learned that the Power House was undergoing an electrical rehabilitation. When they reactivated the grid, it triggered a fire in the installation.
The Bartow County and city fire departments are currently suppressing the area. They have restored the emergency power system to the dam itself. Both departments stress that no damage occurred to the dam itself.
