According to Georgia State Patrol reports, on August 23rd, 2020,  36-year-old, Jonathan Mitchell, of Cartersville was involved in a deadly two-vehicle accident.  While driving a stolen U-Haul truck, Mitchell crashed into a Chevrolet Camaro driven by 53-year-old, Myra Turner of Cartersville.  The accident occurred on Highway 20 and Roving Road just after 5 p.m.  Myra Turner, the driver of the Camaro was killed in the crash.  Her 49-year-old sister, Joanna Turner was a passenger in the car, she was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the details of the case, a good Samaritan stopped to assist. Mitchell reportedly stole his vehicle and left the scene of the accident.  Mitchell traveled down Gilreath road and crashed that vehicle.    

Mitchell was jailed August 24th, 2020 and charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence, failure to yield turning left, improper turn, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident with death, use of safety belts in the passenger vehicle, and theft by taking.

Joanna Turner and her sister were in the courtroom Tuesday; they chose not to comment after Judge David Smith denied bond.
