Lightning strikes from Sunday’s storms started two fires in Bartow. According to a press release, on Sunday at approximately 8:49 p.m., Bartow County Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched to a reported structure fire located at 244 Griffin Road in Cartersville. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from an outdoor storage building. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression efforts, located a fire within the building and were able to bring the fire under control. The outdoor storage building received moderate damage. Upon further investigation by on‑scene personnel, it was determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
They were called out again at approximately 9:16 p.m. Crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire located at 106 Chestnut Street in Adairsville. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire coming from a detached garage. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression efforts and were able to bring the fire under control. The detached garage received major damage. Upon further investigation by on‑scene personnel, it was determined that the fire was
caused by a lightning strike.
