Press Release: BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. (February 4, 2019) – If you delve deep into the 2019 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program semifinalist applications, you will find a multi-sport athlete, amateur radio licensee, published author, and first-degree black belt holder, all from Bartow County.
The Bartow County School System’s seven semifinalists include Adairsville High School juniors Bryana Candelaria (Communicative Arts) and Alexandra Chebat (Visual Arts); Cass High School junior Alexa Halpern (Communicative Arts) and Cass High School sophomore Olivia Flynn (Communicative Arts); Woodland High School juniors William Evans (Music: Euphonium) and Calvin Stovall (Music: Piano), and Woodland High School sophomore Bradley Lorren (Engineering).
“This strong group of seven sophomores and juniors excelled in their online state-level applications,” says Bartow GHP Coordinator Paula Camp. “It’s impressive to see their intense focus in daily classroom activities as well as extracurricular activities. Not only are these students setting a high academic standard through dual enrollment and internships at such a young age, but these well-rounded individuals are also using their unique educational experiences outside of the classroom to add to this year’s program.”
These intellectually gifted and artistically talents students will now have the opportunity to interview and audition at Berry College on February 23, 2019. Finalists will be announced March 29, 2019.
Upon acceptance, finalists will participate in the elite, four-week, summer residential program at Berry College starting June 16, 2019. Students will attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study and discover life-changing instructional opportunities not found in a traditional classroom.
The Governor’s Honors Program remains fully funded by the Georgia General Assembly.
