The Bartow County Board of Education today announces its intention to maintain the current millage rate of 19.40.  Maintaining this current millage rate of 19.40 mills will result in an increase of the property taxes it will levy this year by 7.60 percent over the rollback millage rate. Maintaining the current millage rate of 19.40 mills, will result in an increase of 1.37 mills over the rollback millage rate. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 18.029 mills.

When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate much be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.  The budget adopted by the Bartow County Board of Education requires that a mileage rate higher than the rollback millage rate, therefore, before the Bartow County Board of Education may set the millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the Central Office, 65 Gilreath Road, Cartersville, GA on July 30, 2015 at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm. An additional public hearing on this tax increase is at the Central Office, 65 Gilreath Road, Cartersville, GA on August 17, 2015 at 5:00 pm.
