During the Bartow Board of Education monthly meeting a handful of purchases were made for the various schools in the district. In total there were eight items that on the consent agenda for the school board, which was approved unanimously. The total amount for all eight of those approved purchases was $1,265,772.72 with funding coming from various sources including ESSER and SPLOST. The largest by a couple hundred thousand dollars was the purchase of school learning hubs and maker spaces for Adairsville Middle, White Elementary, Kingston Elementary, Cloverleaf Elementary, Emerson Elementary, and Allatoona Elementary. It is stated on the school boards website that these learning hubs will support all STEM Learning activities while also providing opportunities for interventions and extensions as an integral part of the classroom learning experience for all students, including staff and community. This item will be paid for from ESSER. The two next largest purchases fell just under $200,000. One of these purchases is upgrading the desktops in all elementary and middle school media centers, along with adding five tablets to each media center or learning commons area at each elementary and middle school. This purchase totals $194,400 and will also be paid for from ESSER. Lastly a purchase to upgrade laptop charging carts for all 1:1 devices at the elementary school level and for testing and other special circumstances at other schools. This purchase will be coming from SPLOST and total 199,266.84.
