The Adairsville Tigers scored the game’s final 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to upend the Sonoraville Phoenix on the road Friday night with a 14-10 loss.

Sonoraville scored all of its points in the first quarter with Cole Godfrey’s two touchdown passes to Blade Bryant and Colton Richards. Adairsville was able to get on the scoreboard with 11:20 left in the first half with a Landon Ayers 29-yard touchdown run. With just six seconds left before halftime, Emmanuel Lopez kicked a 20-yard field goal to put Adairsville right back into the game.

Both defenses stood tall in the second half, but it was Adairsville that had a chance to take the lead. On its own 20-yard line Sonoraville elected to go for a fourth down try. Following a false start, two personal fouls and an ejection, the Phoenix were forced to punt from their own 1-yard line. The punt was shanked and gave Adairsville the ball at the Sonoraville 4-yard line.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they could not pick up the score and were stopped on the 1-yard line. Sonoraville ate clock and didn’t allow the Adairsville offense another chance to score.

Tonight’s loss puts a severe hit on the Tigers playoff chances, which were just 46 percent according to Maxwell Preps entering tonight’s contest.

The Tigers will look to rebound next week with a home game against Murray County.
