The Adairsville Tigers (3-1, 1-0) defeated the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors by a score of 42-20 on Friday night, giving the Tigers their first region win of the season.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff, but Adairsville recovered the kickoff, giving the Tigers the first possession of the game. They took advantage of the Warriors’ kickoff blunder, as Ethan Blome’s 2-yard rushing touchdown gave the Tigers an early 7-0 lead.

The Warriors struggled to move the ball offensively in the first quarter, but on one drive, they pinned Adairsville on its own 1-yard line. The unfavorable field position didn’t phase the Tigers, as they scored in just four plays when Chris Roper rushed 82 yards into the end zone to extend the Tiger lead. Adairsville continued to roll in the second quarter as a 78-yard touchdown catch from Grayson Belcher put the Tigers ahead 21-0 early in the quarter. Caden Copeland continued the offensive run with an 8-yard rushing score, giving Adairsville a 28-0 lead with 7:18 remaining in the second quarter.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe finally put points on the board with under five minutes remaining in the first half as a short rushing touchdown made the score 28-7 just before halftime. The Tigers, however, weren’t done just yet, as Belcher recorded his second touchdown of the game, a 20-yard reception, that would give Adairsville a 35-7 advantage going into the half.

Adairsville’s offense picked up where it left off in the second half, as Jonathan Gough’s 8-yard rushing touchdown gave Adairsville a 42-7 lead. After this score, the officials instituted a running clock. With second and third teamers getting game action, the Warriors added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the score 42-20.

Adairsville will host the Ringgold Tigers next Friday at 7:30 PM.
