The City of Adairsville reports that a large amount of rain in a short time caused the North Wastewater Treatment Plant to be hydraulically overloaded and spill about 7,200 gallons of wastewater into an unnamed tributary that goes to Oothkalooga Creek on Friday afternoon at around 4:07. They corrected the problem by 4:30.
Adairsville Wastewater Manager Lisa Eury says the minor spill will not cause any harm.
The city is in the process of making repairs to the sewer system. Morgan Construction, the city’s contractor completing the sewer infrastructure projects funded by the federally funded American Rescue Plan, has started the sewer improvements at St Elmo Circle, First Street, and Second Street.
