The Adairsville Tigers (3-3, 2-2) shook off last week’s heartbreaking loss to North Murray with a 13-12 victory over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe on Friday.

Both defenses held strong while the offenses made mistakes in the first half, but a 4-yard run from Derrick Simmons gave the Tigers a 7-3 lead heading into the half. Things looked scary for the Tigers when Mason Boswell was helped off the field one play before the touchdown run, but he would return to the game for the second half.

Boswell would make that presence known in the third quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run, but a missed PAT made the score 13-3 with 2:12 left in the quarter. Chandler Shankles had key back-to-back sacks for 23 yards, which thwarted a possible LFO score earlier in the third quarter.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe scored on the next drive on a 1-yard touchdown run from Nathan Williams to make it a field goal game with 11:27 left in the game. Just when it looked like Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe was getting ready to score again, the Adairsville defense would strip the ball from Nathan Williams and the fumble would be recovered by Josh Brown.

Both teams would exchange stops, but Adairsville had the ball last. The Tigers elected to take a safety with time expiring to grab its second region win of the year.

The Tigers will look to build off of that momentum with a home game against region rival Calhoun at 7:30.
