Cass failed to score on its next possession and was forced to punt. Adairsville drove down the field and got into Cass territory, but failed to convert on a fourth down, ending the drive. The rest of the half was an intense defensive battle in which both teams ran the ball and struggled to get near the end zone. Adairsville took the 7-6 lead into the half.
The Tigers received the second-half kickoff, and they drove down to the Colonels’ 16-yard line but missed a 33-yard field goal. Cass took advantage of the opportunity as Nelson scored his second rushing touchdown of the game. The Colonels failed to convert the two-point conversion, but held a 12-7 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Adairsville responded quickly as Chris Roper capped off the short drive with a 4-yard rushing touchdown. The Tigers converted the 2-point conversion. That changed the momentum of the game. Cass had scored twice and Adairsville answered both times.
The Colonels had an opportunity to tie the game with a field goal early in the fourth quarter, but the missed attempt allowed Adairsville to pile on. Blome scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, as he scampered in on a 63-yard run. The home team held a 10-point advantage and wasn’t done. After Cass threw an interception, Blome capped off the Adairsville drive with a 1-yard rushing score to put the Tigers ahead for good 29-12.
